Soccer Footbook
Speech given at the end of the fall soccer season
Team: Galaxy, Season: Fall 2002
Dear Stars of this Galaxy,
How many of you have heard of Dr.Seuss? I am sure most of you have! I am also sure that you have read atleast one or more of his books. He has written a book called "The Foot Book" where he describes all kinds of feet! When Vish was little it was his favorite bedtime book! It was the first book that he read all by himself! And he did that even before he learnt a single alphabet!
I have a feeling Dr.Seuss played soccer when he was little. Soccer is a game that is (mostly) played with the feet .. If Dr.Seuss had seen you play soccer, he would have written "The Soccer Foot Book" instead!
Kids,
You have what it takes to play soccer!
A great soccer feet!
You have quick feet,
big feet,
and trick feet.
You have the feet
that plays well in Texas heat!
They never ever did overheat
even in 100 degree heat!
That was really neat
And sweet!
With cleats
on your feet
You were all upbeat.
No one ever heard a downbeat!
You never did browbeat!
Yet you made the other teams retreat
By the tricks of your feet!
You have fast feet,
Fabulous fancy feet,
jumping feet,
and thumping feet.
And fun feet.
You have nice dribbling feet,
and dribbler's feinting feet!
majestic shooting feet!
Terrific tackling feet
and trapping feet,
and dandy defending feet,
lofty kicking feet,
brave attacking feet,
Beautiful passing feet,
And assisting feet.
Not to forget dancing feet
and amazing zig-zag running feet!
And magnificient ball handling feet.
You had forward's striking feet,
midfielder's agile feet
fullback's defensive feet,
goalkeeper's punting feet.
Above all you have goal scoring feet!
No wonder you became this Galaxy's heartbeat!
None of you had sick feet,
dull feet,
tired feet,
crying feet,
mocking feet,
or slow feet,
or the feet that cheat!
Nor did you have more than two feet!
or less than two feet,
though some of you have furry friends with four feet!
You have roadrunner's two feet,
and no coyote could catch up with its four feet!
Or a centepede with 100 feet,
Or a millipede with 1000 feet,
Or a snake with no feet!
You have lion's brave feet,
elephant's majestic feet,
and yet you have a ballet dancer's
graceful feet!
None of you have funny soccer feet
Even though the coaches had soccer-clown's feet
and confused feet!
All of you have soccer smart feet!
When it was dry you played well with dry feet.
When wet you played well with wet feet
and muddy feet!
At all times you played with your smiley feet :-)
You played well with your front feet,
back feet,
left feet,
and the other left feet
(which is also called the right feet!)
All of you have mighty feet!
None of you have haughty feet!
All of you have hot feet!
None of you have cold feet!
You all have this galaxy's most amazing feet,
This constellation's star feet,
And this milkyway's magical soccer feet.
Above all you have the best entertaining soccer feet!
Further you have feet
that are hard to defeat.
I'm saying this with no caveat!
Next time around, I'm sure you would repeat the
feat
with your feet!
Now that the season is over, don't rest those feet
And let dust settle in. Exercise those feet
and keep them fit
as they keep your body and mind fit
and lets you play soccer in spring!
Remember you have whole (soccer) world at your feet!
You have all kinds of amazing feet described in the Foot Book!
If you don't believe me take a look
and read that book!
It's a great foot book!
When I wrote these lines it was my guidebook.
Take a notebook
and write your own "The Soccer Foot" book.
May be your own soccer songbook.
A soccer memory book!
A scrap book!
Even a picture book!
Write something .. even if it is gobbledygook
(like this!)
Don't forget to read it to your
younger brothers and sisters.
