Visit To a Church

This was my first visit to a Catholic Church. I had gone to a small town in Rural Texas to visit some friends and went to Church with them.
The mass was conducted by a Nigerian Priest. There was a baptizing ceremony during the mass as well.
The mass was attended by a good number of people. I think there must have been atleast 150 people. That is quite a large number considering that the town had only about 2000 residents and there are 20 other Churches in town!
The priest did not give a sermon but the Deacon did. I dont remember much of what he said but there were no criticisms of any other faith.
Near the end of the ceremony, two people went around with what looked like a hat (which had a long handle). They went to each row and many put dollar bills in it.
At the conclustion of the service, there was a a big line of people seeking the blessings from the priest and receive a piece of bread. I was not a given a piece of bread by the Priest though (I think) the priest offered his blessings.
However I did enjoy my visit to the church.
