Sports' Poetry

Poems by my 11+ year Old

Limerick

I kicked the ball into the goal
I ran into the pole
I got coach mad
He called me cad
I then fell in a hole.

Ballad
The Basketball game

I woke up this morning
And realized today is the day.
My coach called and said
“Remember to practice for today.”

It is 10:00 a.m and I’m ready.
I’m now in the court waiting…
For my teammates to come.
Fred said, “everyone is looking at our rating.”

It’s finally tip-off time,
And Bill is to jump.
Bill jumped and got the ball.
He shot and landed with a thump.

It is now the 3rd quarter,
And we are up by nine.
We are tired, but ready to play.
Coach says we’re doing fine.

Now it is the 4th quarter and we’re tied 25 to 25.
Time is running out.
Bill throws the ball to me,
Whether I could make the shot, I was in doubt.

Ten seconds left and I have the ball.
I stopped and took a shot at the three.
The buzzer went off. Swish!
My friends gather around me.

Crickets croak out loud
Eagles soaring in the air
Springtime has appeared

He shoots, he scores
Crowd goes wild
Chanting of his name

I question…
Why a free throw is 1 point.
I question…
Why there is an indirect kick.
I question…
Whether or not the ball will go in.
I question…
Why a field goal is 3 points.
I question…
Why cricket is played with a flat bat.
I question…
An under dog.
I question…
Why there are sports at all.
