George Miranda

Meet George Miranda. (Yes he knows his Miranda rights). He is originally from Puerto Rico and now lives and works in Beaumont, Texas.

George is a handyman.
He can fix anything.
Build anything.
And he can do in your budget.

Here you see him in front of the sign Vilas Garh. The pathway (trail) leads to a meditation park some 3000 ft away. The trail was restored/built as as an eagle project.

George works at Beamont, Texas, a good five to six hours away (by car) from Austin. He drove all the way from there to help build and restore the trail. In fact he was the first to show up for work at 6:30AM.

George works and lives by what he makes during the day. He has no health plan or any other benefits. No work .. no money. Yet George was to the first to show up at 6:30AM to do voluntary work at the temple. And he worked until 6:30PM that evening.

He worked hard for a total of 12 hours!
Got paid nothing.
He drove from Beaumont to do his share of voluntary work.

Though a Christian, he came to help build/restore a trail at the Hindu Temple. He came to help a scout in his eagle project driving all the way from Beaumont, TX

And he did not get paid for it. He could have worked and made money elsewhere! Somewhere! Anywhere! He owed us nothing! He is not debted or intdebted to us! And yet he came to help. Coming all the way from Beaumont, TX. Beaumont is located on the right side of Texas.

And he put in a hard work for 12 hours.
Doing all kinds of things!

Cutting trees!
Mowing the lawn.
Clearing brush.
Hauling trash.
Restoring, building and beautifying the trail!

And doing voluntary work!
Something that is to be appreciated!

There were others - scouts and their parents who came to help and they helped. And then there were others - friends who came up to help and they helped. Some came with their spouses and friends. They all pitched in. I appreciate their voluntary spirit.

Come to think of it is the voluntary spirit shown by people like George, scouts, friends and others that keep the world moving. It is the spirit shown by people like them that make this world livable.

Tailpiece:
At that time, when the project was under execution, there was a big man visiting Austin. He was really a big man! A very very big man! A very very large and big man! A big devotee of the temple. You can spot him dancing behind the temple chariot during Rathayatras! At that time (I heard), he was in Austin and was staying at the temple. Just a few yards away! He could have come and helped. He had nothing to loose but a few calories by doing service. He chose not to come! He chose not to come and move a blade of grass! Then there were some others who could have come but never showed up.
